Firefighters risk their lives to save us

Firefighters in action
Fifi, 11, thinks that the firefighters are right to strike because they deserve more money.

"I understand the firefighters are going on strike because the amount of money that they get paid is not enough for the job that they do.

They are risking their lives to save us and animals.

At the moment there are different types of firefighters, you have full-time and part-time or retained.

Retained do their normal job and carry a pager/alerter. When it goes off they have to turn out within four minutes.

Can't afford to move

Full-time firefighters are on station all the time.

Both my uncles are full-time firefighters and are wanting to move out but can't afford to rent or buy a place of their own.

My step dad is a retained firefighter for Sudbury.

Deserve more

I respect the fact that the firefighters are going on strike - they deserve more than the income they are getting.

Having a firefighter at home is hard because if you have arrangements and the alerter goes off you have to go no matter what.

They are trained to use so many different pieces of equipment such as the cutting equipment they use to rescue people out of car crashes.

Green Goddesses

This will be a big concern when they strike as the Green Goddesses will not have this equipment to rescue people in the way firefighters do.

These Green Goddesses are very slow and they do not carry any of the specialised equipment that the firefighters are trained to use."

Fifi, 11, Sudbury

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
