I love going to school at home
Updated 07 October 2002, 09.38
Felicity studies at home
Felicity is one of thousands of children in the UK who gets taught at home instead of at school.

She says she never has a typical day and doesn't miss going to school at all.

"I haven't been to school for the last two years.

I left school because I didn't learn much there and I hated being shut up in a room all day.

Always stressed

Felicity says her classrooms were overcrowded
Felicity says her classrooms were overcrowded
There were lots of people in a very small classroom and it always seemed very noisy.

Sometimes I used to come home with a headache and nearly always stressed and in a bad mood.

Eight teachers

In Year 3 I had eight different teachers and some were not very nice.

None of the children liked it and it made them misbehave and then the noise was even worse.

My mum did not like to see me so unhappy and not learning anything and I always seemed to have lots of colds.

My decision

She asked me if I would like to be taught at home. Guess what I said!

It was really great not having to get up and rush around getting dressed in my uniform every morning.

Different activities

Fact File
Some of Felicity's choice of activities
Going on a nature walk
Visiting museums
Doing some cooking
Watching educational programmes
Playing the piano
Cycling with home educated friends
Working on the computer
Swimming

I never have a typical day.

I get up in the morning and watch CBBC until about 9.00am and then I do some maths, some English, some handwriting practice and some reading.

And after that I have a choice of lots of activities.

Still have lots of friends

I have lots of nice friends, some are home educated and some still go to school but live on my street so I play with them after school.

I am really glad that I am educated at home and there is absolutely nothing that I miss about school!"

Felicity, 10, Plymouth
