  I'm DJing on 1Xtra
Updated 16 August 2002, 20.31
DJ Amarley hitting the decks
The first ever national black music radio station went live on Friday.

BBC 1Xtra is raiding the airwaves and ten year old Amarley's going to be one of the DJs on the decks.

He's been DJing for 4 years and is doing three guest slots for 1Xtra

"My Mum had a record store when I was six so it was kind of easy to get records so it just started from there.

My mum's friend knew about 1Xtra so I sent in a demo and a month later we got the news that I was on.

I love ragga

I'm into everything. I like ragga - also known as dancehall - and I'm also into RnB and hip hop.

But I'm more into ragga and RnB. It just gives me a vibe. I feel it more than pop music.

I only play after school when I've done my homework. And I only do gigs at the weekend if I've finished my homework!

I feel great about going on radio 1 cos it's a good opportunity for me.

Big Up Newsround! And I'd like you to listen to me on BBC IXtra."

Amarley, 10

Why don't you write us a Press Pack report - and get it published on the site?!

It can be about anything that's happened in your local area - or your views on the news.
