Lily the lurcher tells her story
Updated 14 August 2002, 14.26
Lily's life on the streets
Lily is a five-year-old Lurcher, who was a stray until being rescued earlier this year.

This is her story - in her own words.

"Life on the streets for a dog ain't much fun.

No walkies, no dinner, no strokes and definitely no basket to curl up in.

Roaming the streets

How could you not love me?
How could you not love me?
The only owner I ever had dumped me when they got a full-time job.

I roamed the streets for months, trying to find food and somewhere to sleep.

Not a pretty sight

Eventually I got picked up and taken to a kennels where dogs like me get looked after and hopefully get a new home.

But no-one who visited the kennels liked the look of me. All long legs with my bones poking through - not everybody's idea of a cutie.

Fresh start

A whole year went by and then I got sent to the famous Battersea Dogs Home in London to see if I'd have better luck there.

On my new bed!
That's where I met Katie and Matthew. They didn't seem to mind that I'm dead skinny and liked me so much they took me home with them the next day!

I now get three meals a day, lots of strokes and cuddles, they take me running around a massive park where I like chasing squirrels, and best of all I get to sleep on a soft and fluffy duvet!"
