  I went to Brands Hatch!
Updated 03 July 2002, 17.57

Mark went to Brands Hatch to watch Formula 3 star James Courtney compete in a race.

"I went behind the scenes to report on Formula 3 star James Courtney and his racing team Carlin Motorsport.

We were quick to get to the pit garages. First I changed a wheel a on James Courtney's car.

A great mechanic called Rodney showed me how to operate an air gun - I did the shot successfully first time and found my confidence.

At the first test session James left the pit to see how the car handled.

Unfortunately he reported understeer (where the car turns into a corner too early) and a loose break pedal, which the team adjusted.

Expensive sport

I found out the car cost 100,000 to build, unlike a Formula One car, which in comparison costs 12 million!

I interviewed James and he was a really nice chap. I think we can expect to see him in Formula One soon.

I had a go in James' car - the cockpit was cramped and surprisingly the seat was very close to the floor.

Good Luck to and James Courtney in the rest of this year's championship.

It was a terrific day and I even got to wave the chequered flag!"
