Too much money is spent on the Queen
Updated 07 June 2002, 08.37

Ash from Lancashire is angry!

He saw the Jubilee celebrations, but thinks money would be better spent on hospitals and schools.

"I have nothing against the Queen. If she were to stand for President and win then that would be fair enough.

It is the system of us being ruled by someone who has power just because of his or her birthright.

They are serenaded with golden crowns and millions of taxpayers' money.

Cutting ribbons

And what does the Queen actually do? Sure, she opens hospitals and art galleries but anyone can do that.

The Royals never have to worry where the next pay cheque is going to come from, or how to pay the next bill.

Surely their houses would do more for the public being used as hospitals or schools to help people, rather than have many unused rooms.

She has eight cars, while we must struggle with just one or two.

We have more important things in Britain that we can show the world that we have to be proud of, such as free healthcare for all, rather than a distant monarch.

It would be much better to have Land of Hope and Glory as our national anthem than just the praises of one person."

Ash, 14, Colne
