It's best to be calm about exams
Updated 23 May 2002, 09.14
Studying in the school library
Rebecca feels strongly about not putting kids under pressure with exams.

"I think that nowadays there is far too much pressure on children and teens about exams.

Yes they are important at GCSE and A level. Parents and teachers think that if we don't get high marks then our whole lives are ruined, but they're not.

Unnecessary stress

Exam grades are quite important to get jobs, however it's quite often about your personality.

I also think it's stupid to give children as young as seven national tests (SATS), as it puts them under unnecessary stress.

Kids taking their SATS should be made to understand that the tests are to test the school, not them personally.

Staying calm

I'm lucky to have parents who expect my best, and nothing more, so hopefully I will never get to the point where I'm worrying about exams 24/7.

I've got Year Seven exams in three weeks' time and I think it's best to just be calm and organised about it.

We need to get the balance of caring but not too much that you stress about it."
