Return of rock music is near
Updated 21 May 2002, 09.12
Rock band Queen
Avril thinks that pop music today lacks emotion and isn't as good as rock music from the 70s.

"I'm 14 and I'm often mocked for my musical tastes which range from T Rex (excellent band from the 70's) to Mozart.

Even though I don't mind the teasing it bothers me that the people who are doing it have no clue about what music is really about.

It's not about looks, it's not about dance routines, it's not about money.

Original songs

It's about people who have something to say.

The majority of bands today don't even write their own songs.

Steps
They re-release old hits that once meant something to someone but don't anymore because the emotion has been sucked out.

The pop acts today don't have the staying power the bands of yesterday had.

Take Queen for example - they had hits from 1973 all the way to 1991.

Nowadays bands disappear very quickly, which I like to think of as a sign that the return of rock is near."

Avril, 14
