  People should look after hedgehogs
Updated 13 May 2002, 10.00
A hedgehog
Laura from Weymouth loves hedgehogs and has been a member of the Hedgehog Preservation Society for two years.

"I've been a member of the British Hedghog Preservation Society for at least two years.

I feel strongly about looking after the care of these delicate animals.

Care of hedgehogs

The society gives advice to the public about the care of hedgehogs, particularly when they are sick, orphaned or in any other danger.

They also fund serious research into the habits of hedgehogs.

Danger on roads

At least one million hedgehogs get killed on roads each year.

It's also been claimed that the packing of McDonalds McFlurry ice creams may be dangerous to hedgehogs.

They can get their heads stuck in the hole and then suffocate."

Laura, 14, Weymouth
