I'm going to the UN Summit in New York
Updated 07 May 2002, 09.52

Press Packer Harry tells us his expectations of the UN Children's Summit.

"The United Nations Summit on Children is aimed to help the lives of children across the world.

I hope that this meeting will make a difference to the children who are most in need.

I hope this meeting will show world leaders the terrible poverty and suffering that children have to live with each day in poor countries.

This meeting should remind each country what they can do and should do. There will be representatives from 189 countries and many child representatives who will decide plans to help children.

Children having their say

Using children as firsthand witnesses to suffering will give the meeting a more personal atmosphere and hopefully, with these children, the world will truly see what happens.

I think it is our duty to help those who need it most and hopefully this meeting will help.

My school has raised about 3,000 just by having discos and casual clothes days.

I am looking forward to this trip for many reasons including having a great time and seeing New York and the experience of being within the United Nations at such an important event.

I have never done anything like this before and I am looking forward to it with mixed feelings, mostly excitement of course!"

Harry, 15, Northamptonshire
