Penguins in Antarctica

Once we got to Antarctica we got on a 65 foot yacht called 2041.

The boat was an ice breaker and one of the safest boats in the world because it's impossible to capsize.

Tidal wave danger

On the first day we went sailing and went into a glacier.

A glacier is a like an piece of land that's made of ice. We saw huge chunks floating off it, and they made the boat move. This made a huge tidal wave which hit us and we all got soaked!

There were some tricky moments on the trip. I fell into a cravace, which is a crack in the ice. I was lucky because I only fell in a little way because the crack was only big enough to fit my legs in, not my body.

'I missed my mum'

Then when we were on an island a Skua (a bird) pecked my neck and made it bleed. Luckily it flew away and I ran down the hill, but it chased me because I was too close to its eggs.

We saw lots of wildlife - leopard seals, a killer whale, two humpback whales and lots of different penguins.

I was there for four weeks and I missed my mum but nothing else.

And I didn't have to worry about missing TV because my dad bought a mini DVD player with him, so we just watched films!"
