  'Shock advert could save lives'
Updated 16 February 2002, 08.59
Scene from the advert
Amy Brookes explains why she thinks the new road safety advert is a good idea.

"I think this new advert to help lower the number of teenage road deaths is a fantastic idea.

Careless crossing

It will show us how road deaths affect everyone around us, as well as the victims.

Road sign
Just recently I saw a girl walk across a road crossing when the traffic lights for cars were red.

A car skidded straight into her leg and broke it.

I believe that if this advert had been thought of sooner that girl wouldn't be in hospital now.

Loads of people are affected by road accidents that we probably don't even know about.

Knocked down by a van

A boy I knew was knocked down by a van and broke his legs.

The whole class was really upset and so was the rest of the school, including people who hadn't even met him but knew of him.

It's a really brilliant idea and I would bet anything that it will work."

Amy Brookes, Stoke-On-Trent
