Kirsty, far right, lines up at the start of the race
Press Packer Kirsty competed in the world famous Olney Pancake Race.

"First of all we had to make our own pancakes.

Fancy dress

I tried to make mine a bit stodgy so it wouldn't easily fall out of the pan while I was running.

This was my first race and we had to run with an apron on and headscarf (flat caps for the boys) and a frying pan with a pancake in it.

At the start the Mayor told us to toss our pancakes, then the bell rang and we were off.

And this one has almost escaped too!

Quite a lot of pancakes fell out of frying pans as we were running but you don't stop to pick them up, you just keep running for the finish line.

I came in sixth place.

After all the races were completed we went to the church for a service and sang songs.

It was really a fun day and my advice to any future pancake runners would be to use a light frying pan - it helps you to run faster."

Kirsty, 12, Olney
