Helping victims of the erupting volcano
Updated 29 January 2002, 08.17
Boy walking across lava caused by the volcano
Joel writes about his school raising money for people in Goma.

Map showing Goma
"Our school saw a TV report about the volcano erupting in the Congo.

We were very concerned about it, so we decided to help by organising a Bring and Buy Sale.

The head teacher wrote a letter asking for us to bring things in for the sale. We sold popcorn, cakes, books, cuddly toys and toys.

We sold loads of stuff

Year 6 got everything ready for the sale and by the time year 5 and 6 got to buy anything, they had already sold loads of stuff.

Aid is now starting to get to the people of Goma
Blankets are being sent to Goma
In the end I found lots of things to buy - some books and cuddly toys.

It was really fun and we all had a great time.

We raised over 130 and I really hope this money helps the people in Goma."

Joel, 10, Southampton
