Many teen films end with a school prom, and traditionally, it's the biggest event of the year and can make or break you on the social scene.
Do YOU think we should have school proms in the UK?
Would it be a complete nightmare as you'd have to go through the drama of finding something to wear and someone to go with?
Or would you love to get dressed up for the night and have a dance?
Maybe you already have proms at your school and have an experience you can share.

They're a good idea - school is a really nasty experience and it would be nice to have a reward at the end and a good time with your mates to celebrate. Rowena, 15, London
Our school has a prom but it seems really rubbish! I want a big American style prom! Laura, 14, Southampton
Our school has a prom but it is only for year 11 and I think it is great. I wish we had one for every year. Lois, 14, Manchester
It would be lovely! I have always dreamt about going to school in the US! Jess, 13, London
I think proms are a good idea. It is something to look forward to in the school year and gets people really involved with the school spirit. And if nothing else, it's nice to get the chance to dress up! Rachel, 14, Southampton
I don't really mind but I'd love to get dressed up in a dress like Kat's at the end of '10 Things I Hate About You'. I think it would be really depressing if someone couldn't find anyone to go with though, especially if all their friends go and they're left out. Amber, 14, Sheffield
My school prom was last Saturday but it wasn't a traditional prom with boy-girl couple dancing. It was a disco, the people going did dress up formally. One girl I know spent £400 on her dress just for one evening. I believe that it can teach us life skills because of the male-female interaction. Robert, 16, Lincolnshire
I don't really mind if we had a prom but if we did it should be for sixth formers or Year 11. Sophie, 13, Newbury
Our older schools have had proms for decades! It is a great time to celebrate the end of the year. I am totally looking forward to going to my eighth year prom! Vanessa, 12, USA
I think it would be so cool to dress up but I don't like the idea of dancing with a boy! Emma, 11, Derby
I don't think we should have school proms because people who don't get a partner would fell really left out and lonely. School discos are much better because you don't need a boy with you to go to them Hannah, 11, Hemel Hempstead
I disagree with Mark, 13, Oxford, not all girls would like it - personally, I'd hate it. If you don't do all the 'right' stuff and turn up with a date, then you get teased. Hazel, 13, Cambridge
It would be good. I like dressing up and dancing, but not with other people, but I think that boys should enjoy it too- it's only fun!! Come on!! Rosemary, 11, Sidcup
There's going to be a prom at my school. no way am I going to it! it all sounds very cheesy to me, or have I watched too many American teen shows on TV? Natalie, 15, Lincoln
I would soooo love a prom! My cousin in America has one this year and she says people start planning it in freshman let alone senior year. Kimberley, 15, Essex
I have my end of school prom next Friday, and I think its a great idea. A council was created to organise it, and its a good way of saying goodbye before college. It makes us take that step up to being young adults instead of children and teenagers. Besides, its fun! Gill, 15, Portsmouth
Well seeing as I live in the states, Proms are a way of life here. Like a right of passage almost. I don't think they're bad though. they're loads and loads of fun. I can't wait till my first one in 2 years! Jess, 13, USA
I live in the US, and proms are what you look forward to from the age of twelve. My mom said they're overrated but, if nothing else, it's a great reason to stay in school! Sarah, 13, USA
All the sixth years at my high school have a 'prom' at the end of their year, but we call it a 'formal'. I'll be starting my fifth year after the summer so that means that I'll have my formal in two years time and I can't wait for it! Lisa, 15, Glasgow
The high schools in Grimsby all have school proms. They're fantastic. All of the UK should have them. Sarah, 15, Grimsby
I wouldn't like to have a prom, I don't really think they're a very good idea as poorer families may not have much money to get prom dresses, and look smart. Also a lot of people may get teased if they don't look good enough or can't dance. And when you don't have a date, you're pretty much doomed in some peoples eyes. Becky, 14, Southampton
I live in the USA, and have lived in England also. I think it would be a great idea! I had a ton of fun at my end of secondary school dance! (it was called the garden of roses ball!) and it was really cool. I had a great time. Naomi, 14, USA
I'm not really bothered. I can't dance anyway and don't like dressing up smart. But I bet girls would like it though. Matt, 13, Oxford
