What do you think of 'bluejacking'?
Updated 09 December 2003, 10.30
mobile phone
If you've never heard of this new craze, the idea is that someone can send a message to your phone without knowing your phone number and without revealing theirs.

But it can only be done if you've got the wireless system 'bluetooth' on your phone.

So, have you ever 'bluejacked' anyone, or been bluejacked yourself?

If so, let us know what happened.

Do you think it's dangerous because strangers might bluejack your phone? Or is it just a laugh? And will it catch on?

Whatever you think, email and let us know!

Unfortunately this topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.

opening quoteI'm getting a bluetooth phone for Christmas and this is going to be fun while it lasts. I think it is a bit of a stupid idea but will make the most of it while it lasts!closing quote
Nichole, 13, Glasgow

opening quoteI think it's horrible and the people you do it to will get very offended and scared.closing quote
Amy, 14, Manchester

opening quoteBluejacking might be fun to play jokes on your friends but I don't think it's a great idea since it could enhance SMS bullies.closing quote
Taylor, 12, Denmark

opening quoteIt's just a bit of fun and seems pretty harmless. It would be awful if they knew your number though, cos then anyone could get hold of ur details. I think you should also be able to block these messages if you don't want them, cos otherwise they might become offensive and annoying to the people receiving them.closing quote
Jenna, 14, London

opening quoteI think it is a bad idea and people who are bluejacked could start to become very afraid.closing quote
Lucy, 16, Grantham

opening quoteI think it's dangerous. You could get horrible emails!closing quote
Emily, 11, London

opening quoteBluejacking sounds like fun. Now for Christmas I am getting a phone with bluetooth on.closing quote
Ross, 14, Newcastle

opening quoteHardly anyone knows what it is and the phones will probably be really expensive- need I say more?closing quote
Amanda, 14, UK

opening quoteI think that bluejacking sounds like great fun and I can't wait to use it. But it could be mistreated by some people which I think is bad and sounds scary.closing quote
Rachel, 14, Dublin

opening quoteI think it is great. I don't think prank-texters would be a big problem.closing quote
Alistair, 11, Nottingham

opening quoteThis is really fun. I send people contacts in town saying "PREPARE TO ENTER THE MATRIX"!closing quote
Elliott, 15, Taunton

opening quoteI think that this is just a bit of fun and if you don't want to be involved then you have bought the wrong phone.closing quote
Fiona, 13, Newquay

opening quoteI think that you should only be allowed to do it with numbers stored in your phone.closing quote
Elanor, 13, Loughborough

opening quoteI think that it is just a bit of harmless fun!closing quote
Susie, 11, Hampshire

opening quoteI think its another one of those ideas that is going to fail.closing quote
David, 14, London

opening quoteIt's a cool idea but loads of problems will probably come out of it.closing quote
Beatrice, 14, France

opening quotePeople should be able to do what they want with their phones. I don't see what all the fuss is aboutclosing quote
Lee, 15, Kingston

opening quoteI agree, it is stalking! It should be illegal! It's a good job not everyone has bluetooth on their phones or everyone would get bluejacked!closing quote
Peter, 10, St. Helens

opening quoteMe and a friend send notes by bluetooth all the time in school. It's only 'bluejacking' if you send someone you don't know a message. If used just to say 'hi' it's harmless, if it's used to harass people then it's a bit more serious and wrong in my opinion.closing quote
Jenna, 15, Cardiff

opening quoteI think it's a bit funny and a bit scary. It would be hilarious to just randomly text someone something like "your shoelaces are untied", but it would scare the daylight out of you if you received it.closing quote
Emily, 14, Louiseville

opening quoteIsn't this a kind of stalking? It shouldn't be allowed!closing quote
Elaine, 15, Dudley

opening quoteI think it's cool. My Dad told me about it and we do it together. Last week we sent a 'no smoking zone' to a man in a restaurant and he put out his cigar. You can also bluejack with free pictures we downloaded called Tags.closing quote
Robin, 11, London

opening quoteI think its scary, just think of all those people who could send you texts like bullies and strangers!closing quote
Toni, 15, Kent

opening quoteI think that bluejack is quite freaky. I'd never use it because it's just like talking to a complete stranger!closing quote
Hannah, 13, Gloucester

opening quoteI agree it's a stupid idea. It's weird its coming out now when there's all this worry about chat rooms. MSN shuts them down and then they bring out a phone that anyone, anywhere can contact some person they like the look of.closing quote
Emily, 15, London

opening quoteI agree it's a stupid idea. It's weird it's coming out now when there's all this worry about chat rooms. MSN shuts them down and then they bring out a phone that anyone, anywhere can contact some person they like the look of. closing quote
Dimitri, 11, London

opening quoteIt's cool when you think it's ok with the words, but people could try to ask you things. I don't have a mobile but I don't want one. Bluejacking can be very bad and very nice, but it's like going up to a stranger and saying "I like your hair" - I wouldn't do it but if someone did a nasty one to me it would leave me worried. That's why it's dangerous, so be careful, ok?closing quote
Sabrina, 11, Stafford

opening quoteI think bluejacking is wicked and fun to do.closing quote
Ruhin, 12, London

opening quoteNo I don't want that. Anyone could send you a text that's threatening saying 'I'm coming to get you' or something, and you wouldn't know who it was. You could text a small child and really scare them. I think it's cruel.closing quote
Reggie, 13, Wimbledon

opening quoteI wouldn't like to receive messages from people I didn't know. And not everyone will buy a phone with a bluetooth in it just to do that.closing quote
Anna, 12, Cardiff

opening quoteI'd never heard of it and I haven't got the system. But if I did, I don't think I'd like to get a message from someone I didn't know.closing quote
Jane, 12, Bournemouth

opening quoteIts completely pointless. Why would you want a message from someone you didn't know? Anyone could text you with threats or racist comments and it would make it easier for the bullies. So what's the point?closing quote
Sorcha, 10, London

opening quoteI think it could be kind of useful (like if you want to email your crush but you don't want them to know who it is) then I would agree with it to some extent. But this bluetooth button could get in the hands of the wrong person. I have never been bluejacked before though.closing quote
Elycia, 12, Stevenage

opening quoteWhat the heck is it? Well one things for sure - I've not got it.closing quote
Carinne, 13, Newton-le-Willows

opening quoteI think that it is spooky, cos anyone can be spying on you, and I am glad I have not got the system!closing quote
Sophie, 11, Fleet

opening quoteI think that that the whole thing is a terrible idea. How would you like it if you got a text message off somebody and you don't know who it was from? The whole thing is stupid!closing quote
Hannah, 13, Chester-le-Street

opening quoteI think its a cool idea because its a good way of protecting your identity.closing quote
Anna, 11, London
