A new survey says that 98% of kids have never experienced total darkness.
Apparently your parents always leave a light on, or give you a night light.
So, if you've never been in real darkness, are you afraid of it?
Do you hide under your covers? Or maybe, in the back of your mind, you think there might just be something under the bed.

I think everyone has a right to be scared. I do. because one time, I had my light on, while I was reading, and it was around 11pm...all of my family was in another room, and I was looking at my door, and then I saw my switch just shut off! I was scared majorly, because no one popped in or was upstairs at the time! I am not scared of the dark, but I do have a night-light because I think someone will walk into the room while I am listening to my cd player, or just because I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and don't want to trip on anything! I'm not scared of the dark when I'm in my bed, but I am when we go out at night! When I'm in my bed I always think there is someone next to me and so I wrap myself up tight in the covers! Jasmine, 12, Kent

I AM AFRAID OF THE DARK! I need a night light because I'm really afraid of the dark. I always think there's going to be a pair of green eyes looking at me in total darkness ::shivers::. I used to be really afraid of the dark and when I was younger I would sleep with a small light on but I don't anymore and I am not just as scared as I used to be but some times it can get a little scary when you can't see anything!!! Dawn, 12, Erskine

I think that total darkness helps you get more sleep at night, but if some people want to keep a light on then I think they should. Elaine, 13, Glasgow
I'm not affraid of the dark when I'm in my bedroom or in my house! But if I'm outside I'm petrified because I don't feel safe! I've been in pitch darkness before I wasn't scared just felt like I wanted to panic cus I couldn't see! Rhonwen, 12, Camarthen
I first experienced total darkness when I was on a trip with my school in year 6. We went inside a cave and were told to turn our torch lights off. It was pitch black and no one could see a thing it was pretty scary and if I had a choice I would never ever want it to happen again. I hate the dark it's sooooooo creepy. Lizzy, 12, Ipswich
