A group of doctors want to put tax on fatty foods to stop you from eating unhealthily, in the same way they tax cigarettes.
Do you think this is a good idea? Would a higher cost stop you from eating biscuits and cakes?
Or would you carry on filling your face with choccie even if it cost a bit more?
Should one set of foods cost more than another?
I think that is a really bad idea. I'm happy with the prices for things like sweets. I also like having pound and pences and they want us to switch to the euro. Why can't they just leave us to get on with our lives as happy as we are now without trying to "improve" things? Gemma, 14, Liverpool
Ya, I think it's a good idea, I'm a veggie so I have quorn burgers, they taste just like fast food burger's do without all the fat, so if people will have them instead of regular burgers, great! Hannah, 12, Milton Keynes
I think it's a good idea. At our school, a banana only cost 15p, but things like chocolate bars and cakes can cost anything up to 75p. People tend to buy healthier food becuase it's cheaper. Although, I will miss being able to eat cheap chocolate! Phillippa, 13, Goole
My mum and I saw the news and we don't think it will work. Lots of people still smoke so the tax didn't work, did it? What about making exercise really cheap. Like being able to go swimming for a pound. Jack, 8, Biggleswade
No way! I love chocolate too much for that! It's my comfort food and I'd never stop eating it!!!!! Frances, 12, Stratton
I weigh 66kg, and it's unfair if you have to pay for nice food! I'm a growing child, and fat is part of a balanced diet - most, in my case! Ros, 12, Cheltenham
I eat chips and choccy for breakfast and weigh at least 10 stone! Katherine, 11, Cirencester
It won't stop people who are really overweight as chocolate is their routine, it will just waste their money, or their parents money. Most kids won't care if they are spending extra money if it was given to them by their parents. Leah, 12, Surrey
No! It's the government trying to take away our freedom of choice again. Sara, 14, Liverpool
I exercise regularly and don't ALWAYS eat healthily but I like the odd chocolate, cake or biscuit. Why should I have to pay extra? Not all of us are overweight so why should we all have to pay the extra money for the people who are? Also what happens to the poorer families who are not overweight who can't afford a rise in food prices? The government are putting us all in the same overweight group. Amy, 14, Horsham
To help get people healthier? Definitley! Chantal, 12, Sevenoaks
I will still eat the same way as I do now, I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra as long as it isn't too much! Jenny, 14, Bristol
It's our choice to buy fatty foods - it's our health. There should not be a tax on fatty foods. They cost enough as it is. Luke, 13, Ashford
I think that is the most sensible suggestion the government has come up with! It's great, it will hopefully stop all this heart disease and unhealthiness that we need to get rid of! Rach, 14, Birmingham
No! They can't stop everyone from doing the things they like! If someone eats loads of junk food, then that's their problem. Laura, 11, Yeovil
I don't know if I'd want to pay more money for a bar of chocolate or a packet of crisps. I doubt it would stop people eating them though - people would just buy them at a higher price and become poorer. It would be a pointless and money making exercise. Personally I think it wouldn't help fat people at all, especially the rich ones! Jessica, 14, Plymouth
The government are just being stupid if they agree to this. Like, so what, people are making themselves overweight, it's no-one's fault but their own. So the people to pay for it shouldn't be innocent people, but the overweight person paying for medical treatment. Kate, 12, Aylesbury
I think the govenment just use excuses to get more money from people, if someone comes to visit your home, what are you supposed to offer them with their tea? Rice cakes??? Jasmin, 13, London
Yeah, I think there should be. People now are beginning to be more overweight and whatnot, it would help people not be over weight. Sarah, 13, Niagra Falls, Canada
It's a good idea, but I'm not to sure whether it will work because over here the prices are sky high it costs 70 cents [that's about 63p] for a bar of chocolate and that doesn't stop people from buying. Brid, 14, Dublin
Yeah - if it stops people from eating badly, I reckon it's a good thing. Syed, 12, Chester
