Iraq war computer game: would you buy it?
Updated 06 May 2003, 16.23

Sony have announced they are planning to make a game called Shock & Awe.

It's named after the tactics used in the Iraq war. Gamers will be given the chance to play as soldiers in the current conflict.

But what do you think about this? Should world events be turned into computer games?

Or is this a case of fair game? After all, there are plenty of war games out there already, will one more make a difference?

opening quoteI think this is a interesting idea. I don't think it is very nice or appropriate at this time but if they donated ALL the money to the Iraqi people, I may think about it but if they just use it as fun........No way. closing quote
Amy, 14, Lincolnshire

opening quoteThe idea of an 'IRAQ COMPUTER GAME' is sick, disgusting and really disturbing. It just encourages racism against the innocent Iraqi people and violence. The English and Americans would be the 'good guys' and, c'mon we haven't even won the war yet, they're being way too optimistic! The soldiers really only fought for Saddam as the didn't want to be gassed by a complete creep who used chemical weapons on his own peeps. closing quote
Katie, 13, Uckfield

opening quoteNO WAY HO SAY COS DA WAR IS R.E.A.L, AINT A GAME dis is just cos of da many teenagers protesting against war their 'trying' 2 make us see things differently but uh-uh we can see right through it. WAR AINT RIGHT but den Saddam aint right either....closing quote
Cathrine, 14, Harlesden

opening quoteIt's typical for one form of the media to take advantage of a terrible event that involved death and misery just to make money!closing quote
Darren, 15, Merseyside

opening quoteIT'S HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! Who does Sony think they are!closing quote
Amelia, 9, London

opening quoteNO WAY! What sicko would buy that?! I think it's terrible and very cruel, you'd have to be disgusting to buy that game. closing quote
Imogen, 12, Isle of Wight

opening quoteI think Sony`s idea is horrid, think if we were the children Iraq, and your childhood horror has been made into a computer game. Would you like it? No!closing quote
Tabitha, 15, Cornwall

opening quoteIt would be like buying a video game about September 11thclosing quote
Katie, 11, New York

opening quoteWorld War 2 has been made into countless games but not many people have complained. About the same amount as the population of the UK died in that war. Why complain now?closing quote
Harry, 14, Surrey

opening quoteI certainly wouldn't buy it!closing quote
Beatrice, 14, France

opening quoteNO! It would be horrid. All those people out there dying, and what do we do? Make a computer game out of it! It's inhumane!closing quote
Sarah, 14, Lancashire

opening quoteNO way!!! It's bad enough seeing pictures of it in newspapers but to play a game of it is just sad and shows no respect to people who have died and their families!closing quote
Steph, 14, North Ayrshire

opening quoteAs Victoria says, trivialising war to the point of making it a video game is a heartless thing to do - if they actually make the game, will they make any reference to civilians killed in air strikes and so forth? I don't think so.closing quote
Jefferson, 15, Bromley

opening quoteEveryone says it is sick and horrible but look at the Medal of Honor games based on World War 2 which have sold over 12,000,000 world wide.closing quote
Rob, 13, Hove

opening quoteI think wars could and should never be classed as games.closing quote
Rosi, 11, Swindon

opening quoteI think it's such a stupid Idea. Thousands of people have died and to make a game based on this war is crazy!closing quote
Robi, 16, Leyton

opening quoteOh I think that's a bit sick to be honest. The war hasn't even ended yet! Think of the way the soldiers will feel!closing quote
Abi, 12, Exeter

opening quoteThis just shows how corrupt our world has become - merchandising the war? That's completely wrong.closing quote
Victoria, 15, Basingstoke

opening quoteI think it's totally wrong - think of all the people who died!closing quote
Chantal, 12, Sevenoaks

opening quoteI like Sony but I am NOT happy about this! It's not respectful for those who've lost their lives and besides, who in their right mind wants to play a game where they go around shooting people?! I don't see the appeal, for one thing it'd be really boring!closing quote
Caroline, 14

opening quoteNo way! It's a sick idea. So many people are dying and suffering in Iraq - it's not a game, it's real.closing quote
Lyndsey, 15, Wakefield

opening quoteNo! War is serious, not fun. What sort of sick person would make war into a computer game? closing quote
Toni, 13, London

opening quoteNo! I would never buy any games about war! It just isn't right to turn a war, where soldiers are risking their lives, into a computer game!closing quote
Emma, 11

opening quoteI think it is a bad idea because lots of people died in the war and we are going to play with it.closing quote
Nirosha, 13, London

opening quoteNo way - this game sounds sick. I hate all war games. How could anyone play at shooting solders, when they know that people really have died? I definitely won't support this game.closing quote
Sarah, 15, Birmingham

opening quoteIt's a good idea, and it's okay to use world events... But I wouldn't buy it! I don't like war games!closing quote
Mike, 12, Whitley Bay

opening quoteI think it will be boringclosing quote
Segun, 10, Southampton

opening quoteAbsolutely, I so can't wait to play this game!closing quote
Tam, 11, The Wirral
