So the waiting's finally over, and The Lord of the Rings is about to hit our cinema screens.
But the question is: can it possibly match the magic of Harry Potter?
Will the Hobbits outshine Hogwarts or Harry hammer Gandalf? Tell us what you think now!
Unfortunately this topic is now closed but there are Comments pages on other subjects on the main Chat index.
I think Lord of the Rings will be more popular but I prefer Harry Potter because it's more simple and I like the books better.
 Myroslava, 12, Manchester
I think that Harry Potter was a brilliant read, but best left to the imagination of the reader. Lord of the Rings has so much description involved in the story that the film will be more pleasing to a wider audience and will work very well.
 Louise, 14, London
I think the film looks fantastic, scarier than Harry potter so it will appeal to an older audience. But the younger audience love Harry so they are hard to choose between. I'm torn between the two.
 Sophie, 14, Broadstairs
I have read all four Harry
Potter books, thought they were brill but the movie let me down. I think Lord of the Rings will be better.
 Anna, 9, Norwich
I think that Lord of the Rings will be better than Harry Potter. I have seen HP and it was OK but I think that Lord of the Rings will be brilliant.
 Anton, 12, London
From what I've heard, Lord of the Rings is set to be a fantastic film, with all its special effects. But Harry Potter beats it by miles for me.
 Taruna, 12, Loughborough
I thought that Harry Potter was fabulous, and I have read all the books, but I think that the Lord of the Rings will be better. It is more action packed and exciting. I love the books, so I hope the films are just as good!
 Emily, 15, Brighton
I don't like Harry Potter at all, but I think Lord of the Rings won't be as successful and that the public will prefer Harry Potter.
 Sara, 12, Winchester
Look at it this way, I've only just started reading LOTR and have been a massive fan of HP for years. Both books are classics! And the movies are just as good!
 Francesca, 12, Catford
I think Harry Potter can thrash Rings because Rings is rated PG-12 while HP is a PG and appeals more because the books are more popular than Rings.
 Luke, 10, Northfield
I think that Lord of the Rings will do much better as it's designed for a much wider audience. While Harry Potter is more for younger children, Lord of the Rings was written for adults and is therefore going to have a lot more people wanting to see it.
 Alison, 14, Glasgow
I think that Lord of the Rings is going to go straight to the top with the older customer simply because it has a more intricate and developed story line. However Harry potter is going to appeal to a younger audience so it all depends on whether younger people visit the cinema more than older people.
 Darren, 13, Redhill
Lord of the Rings looks great but it will no way be as good as Harry Potter!! Harry Potter is for all ages and is the best!
 Danielle, 15, Balloch
As much as I love the Harry Potter books (though I cannot say the film impressed me much) I think that Lord of the Rings will do much better as it is arguably one of the greatest books of all time.
 Keightey, 14, Scottish Borders
The Lord of the Rings will be the best movie ever! It cannot be compared to Harry Potter as it is on a much higher level. It will appeal to everyone, and to all those Harry Potter fans I shall say don't knock it until you've tried it!
 Fabrianna, 14, Worcester
I think Lord of the Rings will be better than Harry Potter. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter but the film doesn't look as good as the book. Lord of the Rings will be a much better film.
 Paris, 12, Bolton
I think that the Lord of the Rings will wipe Potter clean of his magic. I have only seen the trailer for the film but it looks ace compared to the trailer for the Harry Potter film.
 Jess, 11, Anglesey
Having seen Potter I was disappointed with the adaptation, Lord of the Rings was Book of the Century so it is no surprise if it's way bigger than even dare I say it, Star Wars.
 John, 14, Harrogate
Lord of the Rings looks totally amazing, but it will never beat Harry Potter! Then again, I may change my mind after seeing it!
 Jo, 14, Stroud
I like all the Harry Potter books and I've seen the movie. It's very good, but I think if you just compare the trailers it's easy enough to see that LOTR is better, but it's only a prediction after all, who knows.
 Anna, 12, Milton Keynes
I love Harry Potter and the film was brilliant. But Lord of the Rings looks awesome and the actors are great. I hate to admit it but Lord of the Rings will be better.
 Hassan, 14, Stratford-upon-Avon
I've never read any Lord of the Rings books and I never would because Harry Potter is probably the best film ever.
 Surbin, 8, Stratford-upon-Avon
I think it will beat Harry Potter, but only because lots of people didn't go to the HP movie because they thought it would spoil their view of the books.
 Natalie, 11, Biddenden
Harry Potter will be much better. I've read the Lord of the Rings and it won't work in a film.
 Sarah, 12, Bristol
Lord of the Rings should be better than Harry Potter, plus it is more action-packed.
 Gemma, 9, Luton
Lord of the Rings will be the best film as it is the best book and has the best actors of the two.
 Jack, 11, London
I have read all three Lord of the Rings books and I think it will crush Harry Potter. The books are more in depth than Harry Potter. I saw Harry Potter and I disliked it. I have heard Lord of the Rings has had a brilliant review by the critics.
 Anthony, 13, Tamworth
Lord of the Rings is a great book, full of adventure and fantasy. I think the movie will have brilliant special effects and will definitely beat Harry Potter!
 Harriet, 11, Stratford
I think Lord of the Rings will be much better, because the effects are stunning, the book is a classic and I think generally the Lord of the Rings is much better, although Harry Potter deserves credit as well.
 Stacey, 14, Devon
I have read all four books and believe that Harry Potter is good, but the actual film was a disappointment.
The Lord of the Rings is made for the big screen and Harry Potter is best seen in our minds.
 Graheme, 12, Newcastle
I'm usually very sceptical of things that challenge the things I love (in this case Harry Potter) but from what my dad's told me about the book, I have to admit, it looks pretty good. Sarah, 13, Rotherham
The film is going to be completely different from the book, but it will smash Harry Potter. Sophie, 14, Exeter
Lord of the Rings will not be as good as Harry Potter, but it will still be a reasonably good film. Harry's magic will go on! Laura, 11, Bishops Stortford
You can't comment on the film until you've seen it or read it. It will be undoubtedly the best film of the year and if not, it will draw with Harry. Iain, 10, Warrington
I think that Lord of the Rings is gonna beat Harry Potter by a mile! I've seen Harry Potter but against Lord of the Rings, it's rubbish! Jessica, 11, Swindon
I think Harry Potter will still be the best. The book is lots more popular and it's about kids so you can relate to it. Danielle, 13, Liverpool
Lord of the Rings will not stand a chance against Harry Potter! Rebekka, 12, London
I think Harry looks way better than Lord of the Rings. Harry is spellbindingly brilliant! Kyle, 12, Sheffield
I think it will be a brilliant film, but you can't compare the two films until you've seen them both. But I think it might be just as good as the Potter film, we'll just have to see which one comes out top. Sarah, 14, Wellingbrough
It looks really cool. I think it will do better than Harry Potter because it appeals to a much wider audience. I'm reading the book at the moment and it's so much better than anything I have ever read! It's amazing and full of mystery. Helen, 12, Southampton
I think the Rings film looks much better - it looks scarier and much more real and exciting. Andre, 11, Birmingham
