Kids have been given new advice to try to reduce the number of mobile phones being stolen.
Do you feel OK carrying a phone? Does taking a phone to school make you safer or more of a risk?
And how important is it that you can chat to your mates whenever you want?

Phones are getting newer and more fashionable so they are instant targets for theft. But you only really need to take a phone to school if you live quite far away and don't get a lift.
 L, 14, London
I think that people need to look after their phones a bit better, I found one at my local park and handed it into the shop in case any one asked for it.
 James, 14, Okehampton
I got my phone for Christmas but I will not use it in public.
 Lizzie, 12, Whittion
I am always very careful with my mobile because I don't want it to be stolen. I always keep it hidden in public as I am scared that someone will take it from me and hurt me.
 Lucy, 14, Cambridge
Mobiles are suppose to be there for protection, but they are causing danger for kids. Most kids don't buy mobiles for protection, they buy them as a fashion item.
 Sami, 15, Hull
I think that mobiles are so useful, just the other day my mate got into trouble and I was able to phone her mum to let her know. Having a mobile is just that added security.
 Amy, 15, Norwich
My phone makes me feel more secure. I also find it useful when I forget my house key and have to call my mum to get her to let me in the house!
 Mhairi, 15, Carluke
I take my mobile to school to phone my parents, but when I'm out I tend to keep it in the bottom of my bag so nobody can see it. I feel safer with it because I can phone someone in an emergency.
 Nik, 12, Bucks
I try not to get my phone out in public too often. If I am alone whilst walking home, I always keep it close to hand just in case something happens.
 Madelyn, 14, Woking
My friend had her mobile stolen in class. But I always carry my phone round with me in case I get into trouble.
 Lara, 11, Sunderland
Carrying my phone makes me feel safe and cool at the same time. Although I take my phone to school, I don't worry - as long as I don't bring it out in public, so it doesn't get stolen.
 Simeon, 13, London
I think it is safe to carry a mobile phone round with you so if anything happens to you, you can get in touch with your parents or if you're going to be late home from school you can phone your parents and tell them.
 Emma, 12, Leeds
I always keep my phone in my pocket so it is hidden away from the public and that I can keep it handy in an emergency.
 Louise, 12, Redcar
I think it is OK to carry your phone with you as long as it is hidden away. Then nobody knows you've got it.
 Maria, 11, Bolton
I always keep my phone in my pocket so if anything happens.
 Dan, 9, Stockport
I hate having a phone on because I always get the feeling that someone will steal it when I'm not looking. My friend had her phone stolen and she was really upset. I never have my phone at school.
 Zoe, 11, Derby
"Having a mobile phone is really useful for keeping in contact with people. I always keep my phone close when I go out."
 Kaighly, 13, Norfolk
"My phone makes me feel more secure; if I see something wrong, like a fire, I can call right away. I also find it useful when I forget my house-key and have to call my mum to get her to let me in the house!"
 Mhairi, 15, Carluke
"Mobiles are cool (fact) but there is a risk of them being stolen. I say keep it in your pocket and if you want to phone someone make sure no-one will nick it! I say only use it if you really need to. Call your friends from home but always carry one!"
 Sarah, 12, Maidstone
"I had my mobile stolen last week in P.E. at school and feel less safe without it and wish I'd not had it in public."
 Eve, 14, Colchester
"I always keep my phone in my hand when I walk home in case anything happens."
 Sarah, 10, Chester
