The species has been protected for 30 years but now numbers are spiralling out of control and hunting is being seen as a solution to the problem.
A proposal to allow the hunting of 25 crocodiles a year has been handed in to the Australian government.
The government is considering the plan and will make a decision soon.
Croc hunters would have to stick to strict rules.
They would need to prove they were skilled and would only be able to shoot old, large male crocs which were out of the water.
Danger
Hunting supporters claim the crocs are a danger to people and animals and it's important to limit their numbers.
