Rusher was saved because he was too chunky to get all the way down the hose, getting stuck halfway down and just inches from the suction fan.
Owner Jack's mum felt the vacuum jam as she cleaned his bedroom. She quickly opened the machine up and retrieved the rotund rodent just in time.
Luckily Rusher was unharmed, and after a quick check up from Jack's dad, a vet, he's now recovering at home.
Jack, six, keeps nine-month-old Rusher in a cage in his bedroom but occasionally the rodent escapes and roams around the room.
Saved by his appetite
Being overweight is usually a bad thing but Rusher's wide waist stopped him from going all the way into the machine which would have killed him
"If he had been a thin hamster, things would have been a lot worse," said Jack's dad Nick Horniman.
