Scottish Borders Tourist Board wants people to e-mail in their pictures of red and grey squirrels, with details of when and where they were taken.

The scheme will help conservationists keep track of the UK's threatened red squirrels, which are now outnumbered 18 to one by their grey cousins.

Scotland is home to around 75% of the UK's 160,000 red squirrels.

There is also a community of the creatures on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour in Dorset, where a scheme has been set up to help protect them.

Conservation groups have joined together to monitor and research the creatures to help prevent them from dying out.
