  Dogs cost their owners millions
Updated 22 March 2004, 10.50
Dog owners spend millions on them
Pampered pets in the UK are costing their owners millions of pounds every year according to a new report.

It reckons that UK dog owners are spending a massive £73m every year, with some dogs having as much as £50 every month spent on them.

The survey asked 820 people questions about their dogs, and around half said they let them sleep on their beds.

It also found that young owners were most likely to buy gifts and goodies for their dogs.

Some even choose to give their dogs haircuts and nail treatments while two in every three dog owners buys them a Christmas present.
