  Crufts inquiry into doggy doping
Updated 10 March 2004, 10.30
A dog being checked at Crufts
Crufts dog show officials are checking reports that a dog who was set to win a prize was drugged by oponents.

Kerri the Doberman was tipped to win her category, but she became sluggish before she went into the show ring. Her owners think she was fed drugged meat.

Cruft's vet, Trevor Turner, said: "She showed signs of sedation."

Kerri's owners, Clive and Nancy Evans, have won the Best of Breed category twice, and say: "Someone is trying to knock us off the top of the ladder."

The Crufts Show Committee are checking CCTV footage to try to clear up the problem.

Only one other case of drugging has been reported in the last 20 years at Crufts.

Crufts 2004 was won by a four-year-old Whippet called Cobyco Call the Tune - or Deedee for short.
