Ten firefighters used a JCB to dig up a Jack Russell which had got firmly stuck down a rabbit hole.
Titch had been out for a walk when he shot down the hole. His owner, Penny Parry, spent two hours trying to coax him out, then called the fire service.
The team dug for four hours with spades, shovels and pickaxes, then resorted to the digger to rescue him.
Mrs Parry, from Gloucestershire, said Titch was fine. "He was dirty and scared, but unharmed," she said.
'He's usually chicken'
She told how she just saw Titch's tail disappearing down the hole, before she could stop him.
"I knew he couldn't get out as he's usually quite chicken and wouldn't want to explore on his own," she said.
