  Virtual solution to pet problems
Updated 23 December 2003, 11.35
Learn about looking after animals
If you've been told you can't have a pet for Christmas, but still want one, the RSPCA may have a virtual solution.

They've created a special Cyberpet on their website that you can adopt and then look after, just like a real one.

You have to log on to feed it, play with it and even take it to the vet, but if you don't treat it well enough the RSPCA could take it away from you.

There's even a cyberpettery to book your new pal into during your holidays - just don't forget they're there!

Lots of people buy pets at Christmas and then realise they can't cope with them afterwards, giving the RSPCA big problems.

They hope the Cyberpets will help people think much more about getting a pet, and only do it when they're sure they really want one.
