TV cows say 'hands off my rear'
Updated 20 December 2003, 13.59
One of the singing cows in India
Singing cows are urging people in India to stop wearing leather.

The moo-cows are the stars of a new animal charity advert which sees the cows chanting: "Do I make myself clear? Keep your hands off my rear."

The adverts are made by The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta). Their staff say some cows are treated terribly in India.

There are reports of cows being crammed into lorries with no food and water, but the leather industry denies this.

Bad conditions

The cows are also seen singing: "We'd like to stay together, we don't wanna be your leather."

Cows are actually a sacred animal in India, but Peta says there are cases of them being treated cruelly and transported in bad conditions.

Leather industry bosses, who say they have nothing to do with the bad treatment of animals, employ around 2.5 million people in India.
