Homes needed for 269 rescue pets
Updated 07 October 2003, 14.18
Some of the rescue dogs at the RSPCA rescue centre in Great Ayton, Cleveland
The 269 animals found in the RSPCA's biggest rescue operation need homes.

244 dogs, cats, parrots, a rabbit and a chinchilla were found in a single house in Carnforth in Lancashire in September.

It took 26 staff two days to get them all out of the house where they lived with a middle aged couple.

Most have been health checked and microchipped and now the RSPCA is appealing to pet lovers to give them new homes.

Some of the dogs were in a bad condition, and a few have had to have operations to make them better.

Looking after the animals is very expensive; so far it's cost the RSPCA about 10,000 a week for food, transport, and medicine for the animals.

If you think you can help out with a new home, contact the RSPCA.
