  Creatures stolen from Venezuelan zoo

A peacock was among the creatures taken
Thieves have made off with a haul of more than 40 animals from a zoo in Venezuela.

Some of the stolen creatures belong to endangered species.

Valuable

They are very valuable and it's thought that the thieves will try to sell them.

The haul included 37 turtles, a tortoise, a parrot, a duck, a sheep and a peacock.

Three of the missing turtles were Arrau turtles - Venezuela's most endangered species.

The thieves struck at a zoo in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on 23 July.

Stuffed animals

They also took some stuffed animals.

A police spokesman said the thieves took the creatures to sell them - and not to eat them.
