  Scary seagulls attack young tourists
Updated 21 July 2003, 16.44
Seagulls are stealing people's food
Scary seagulls in Cornwall are terrorising tourists by attacking them and stealing their food.

The hungry birds have been swooping down on children and stealing food out of their hands and even their mouths!

They are particularly fond of ice cream, chips, pies and pasties.

'It bit my finger'

The gulls love ice cream and chips
But now holidaymakers in St Ives, Cornwall, are getting fed up with the thieving gulls, which are large and have two-inch long beaks.

Lauriann, 17, said one bird attacked her quite badly when she walked down the street with a hot pastie.

"It scratched my cheek with its claws and bit my finger - it was horrible. It had no fear," she said.

Shooting

Seagull
One worker in St Ives told how he saw a gang of gulls attack a small girl, who was left crying after they stole her chips.

Now other workers are calling for action. Some want to be able to shoot at them, but it's illegal in this country.

So the local community are still trying to work out what to do with the brutal birds.
