  Animals looted from Baghdad zoo
Updated 17 April 2003, 21.50
A camel in Baghdad
The looting in Baghdad has been so bad that they've even stolen animals from the zoo there.

More than 300 animals - including monkeys, bears, horses, birds and camels have all disappeared.

Some have been stolen, others have been left to roam the streets after their cages were opened.

Lions too dangerous to take

Only the seven lions and two tigers are still there - probably because they are too scary and dangerous for the robbers to take.

Tigers left in the zoo aren't being fed

They are now not being looked after properly and are starving in their enclosures.

People keep on coming to the area with guns to see what's left, so there aren't many people to care for them.

The zoo's vet says: "I am frightened to come here, but I have to see my animals. They are hungry but we have no money to feed them."
