The European eagle owl is the largest of any kind of owl in the world, and has been known to hunt foxes and small deer.
Jazz flew away from his owner Mark Triphook when he was being exercised in a park near his home.
Mark reckons that because Jazz was bred as a pet, he was far too tame to hurt any other animals, and that's why the fox managed to get him.
He said: "They are powerful birds but the more tame you make them the more you take away their natural instincts."
