Home Secretary reveals new guide dog
Updated 24 January 2003, 19.25
David Blunkett and his new dog Sadie
Home Secretary David Blunkett has introduced his new guide dog to the world but has had to say goodbye to his pal of 10 years.

His new dog is called Sadie. She's a two-year-old black Labrador-retriever cross.

She seemed pretty relaxed in front of all the media.

Sadie is the half-sister of Mr Blunkett's old dog Lucy.

Pampered

After ten years of hard work, Lucy is going to spend her retirement being pampered by the dog trainer who originally taught her all her tricks in Manchester.

She will be joined by her 11-year-old terrier boyfriend, Barney.

The Home Secretary admitted that he will miss Lucy.

Workaholic

He said: "She was not only a great aid to mobility but also a companion."

Sadie's trainer says she'll be a great guide dog and that she's a "workaholic".

She said: "She's very outgoing, she is inquisitive but not fazed by anything and that reminded me of Lucy at that stage of her life."
