Dogs take the lead in dancing competition
Updated 30 December 2002, 16.23
Dog dancing competitions
For some people training their dog to do anything is tough, so imagine trying to teach them to dance!

That's what some proud pooch owners have been able to do, and they even show off their skills at special dog dancing competitions.

On Monday, more than 100 dogs were trying to catch the eyes of the judges at one of the largest competitions in the country at a village in Warwickshire.

Even the dogs take their training seriously
The dogs are competing in dances as diverse as a reel, jig, waltz or jive with their owners, who choose the music the pair dance to.

Linda Topliss, of Canine Freestyle GB, said: "The amazing sport of Canine Freestyle and heelwork to music is growing rapidly.

She added that the way the dogs and owners work together is breathtaking, and very personal to the partnership between the pair.
