The dog who's eaten two mobiles
Updated 28 December 2002, 14.01

Zach the dog has been scoffing Christmas turkey
Zach the beagle dog gives new meaning to the phrase "bottomless pit".

The hungry hound has shocked his owner by eating virtually anything in her home.

In the last six years, Zach has polished off two mobile phones, a ring and a cheque for £10,000!

He's also munched:

  • 14 cushions
  • slippers
  • shoes
  • socks
  • pants
  • several sets of curtains
  • bathroom sponges

Zach's owner, Deirdre McLennan, from Penzance in Cornwall, said she didn't know what to do!

Tucking into turkey

"I'm at my wits end," she told the Daily Express newspaper. "The other day he came back with a Wellington boot, somebody's shoe and our next door neighbour's diving vest. But I still love him."

People have suggested putting a muzzle on Zach to stop him eating everything in sight, but Deirdre doesn't want to. Besides, he comes in handy at Christmas, by scoffing all the leftovers.

"He's still tucking into the turkey at the moment," Deirdre said.
