Updated 04 November 2002, 14.25
A nervy penguin checks out Bob
Nervous penguins trying to get used to their new zoo home have been given a stuffed toy to put them at ease.

The baby birds have huddled together for days because they are too scared to explore their new home at Amazon World on the Isle of Wight.

Fact File
Jackass penguins
They are the most endangered of penguins
Only found off South African coast
Drop in numbers due to humans eating their eggs in the past
Fishing's taken away a lot of their food supply too
Pollution from oil tankers also damaged population

So keepers gave them a toy penguin from the shop to show them the ropes in their enclosure.

And Bob the toy has really perked up the Jackass penguins and even seems like their leader now!

It's as if he's the coolest kid in class as the seven-month old birds follow Bob around when his keepers pull his string.

If he goes up a path, the babies reckon it's OK to go up there too.

And they even seem worried when Bob topples over!

They only get a little bit suspicious when he doesn't join them for an icy dip in the pool.
