Dog adopts lion cubs in Argentina
Updated 31 October 2002, 18.20
Lion cubs
A pair of lion cubs in Argentina have been adopted by a dog after their mum didn't want them.

Their mum, Vicky, had already had one cub was having problems giving birth to the other two, so doctors had to perform a special operation to help her.

But after the operation Vicky couldn't look after them, so vets decided that giving them to another lioness would be best.

However the lion cubs didn't seem too keen on the change, so now a dog at the zoo has started looking after them.

People can go in the cages!

At Lujan Zoo dogs quite often share cages with baby lions and the zoo lets people go into the cages.

Zookeepers also use gentle dogs to help them train the baby lions.
