Animal experts are trying to come up with a watery IQ test for a clever octopus living at an aquarium in Cornwall.

Solomon, the brainy squid, first amazed staff and visitors at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay when it took him just a couple of hours to work out how to open a jar of food.

And when he first arrived, he tried to escape his quarantine tank. The smart squid spotted his favourite food - crab - in the tank next door and figured out how to get to them.

These things sound easy to us, but are signs of a brainy animal.

Marine expert Jo Trout told CBBC Newsround Online: "He's a big hit with visiting kids. He comes out and does a little dance in the tank and grabs hold of your leg or arm!"

The tests could involve sorting coloured balls or shapes and finding his way through a watery maze.
