Half our pets are fat cats!
Updated 18 July 2002, 16.00
More than half of cats and dogs are overweight
More than half of all cats and dogs are little fatties.

Sugary snacks and massive dinners means loads of pets have piled on the pounds.

But it's really bad for them, vet charity PDSA has warned.

Lots of dogs need to go on diets
Portly pets can have trouble walking and breathing, get heart problems and develop diabetes.

The PDSA reckons owners should start watching their pet's expanding waistlines to make sure they don't get too fat. And if they're a bit porky, they should go on a carefully planned doggie-diet.

Lots of dogs also have gum disease which can lead to serious heart and kidney problems.
