Bee poo rains down on village
Updated 12 June 2002, 18.06

You may be used to it raining cats and dogs - but have you ever heard of green rain before?

Locals of Sangrampur, near Calcutta in India have, and they've complained that the green rain has stained buildings and clothes.

And they were worried that the rain could be dangerous and contain chemicals.

Eating pollen

But experts have discovered that the rain is nothing more than bee poo.

The bees managed to swallow pollen while they were collecting nectar from flowers.

Not part of their usual diet - the pollen couldn't be digested, so they had pass the pollen in mid air - causing the green rain. Bleargh!
