If the disease in the leg spread it could have killed the lanky infant so vets decided to cut it off.
At first vets were stumped for what to do.
But after several weeks of experimenting with different supports, vets finally settled on a false bamboo leg for Taiyo.
Balanced
Bamboo's strong enough to support Taiyo but light enough not to upset his balance.
The "hoof" end is covered with a rubber boot to stop him slipping over, and the leg is held in place with tape and plaster.
Vets are keeping watch because they're not sure what'll happen to Taiyo as he grows taller.
But for now he's back on his hooves.
