  Lassie top dog in movies
Updated 28 January 2002, 14.15
Lassie with trainer Bob Weatherwax
Lassie the clever collie has been voted the most popular animal ever in a film.

The furry actor has been the star of dozens of movies, TV films and even had her own TV series.

On screen she's expert at getting her owners out of scrapes or rescuing friends from dangerous situations.

Hedwig beaten

She beat the talking pig Babe and even Harry Potter's owl Hedwig to snatch 54% of the votes.

Cats and Dogs puppy Lou and Toto the yappy terrier from The Wizard Of Oz were also on the list which polled 1,000 movie-goers.

Lassie's actually been around for 50 years!

So it's not surprising that there have actually been several Lassies over the years.

She's trained by a man called Bob Weatherwax who took over the job from his father Ruud Weatherwax.
