The hogs are attracted to the smell of the ice cream but when they go for a lick their prickly spines mean they can't get out.
It's said many have been found dead or dying with their heads stuck in the dome-shaped carton.
A redesign?
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) is asking McDonalds to think about redesigning the cartons, but it's not certain whether they will.
In the meantime the BHPS says people should throw away their litter properly in dustbins which could save many hogs' lives.
There are about a million hedgehogs in Britain but they are very accident-prone, often getting run over on the road.
