  Pets get celebrity names
Updated 05 January 2002, 16.31

On Friday we reported on the most popular names for children, with Harry and Maximus soaring up the popularity charts because parents are looking to celebs for inspiration.

Well it looks like those same parents are calling their pooches and pussycats after their fave sports or film heroes too!

Fetch it Becks!

The survey of 2,000 pet owners by animal healthcare company Merial, found dogs are having to answer to the call of Becks, Cole and Zola, while cats are going crazy for names like Batman, Elvis, Homer and Britney.

The top two names which are just the cat's whiskers for felines are still Tigger and Tom though, whilst top for dogs are Sam and Jess.

Some pussycats are even getting used to being called Hobbit and Bilbo Baggins after Lord of the Rings characters.

What is the top name for a pet? Vote now by going to the link to the right of this story. While you're there, why not vote in our brand new celebs charts?
