  Extra large squid spotted!
Updated 21 December 2001, 13.16

A new type of enormous squid that has been spotted in seas around the world is puzzling scientists.

According to the journal Science, the creatures reach up to seven meters in length - that's 23 feet!

'Never seen anything like it'

Scientists say this new squid looks weird because its arms are extremely long and positioned in a different place on the body.

The large creature also behaves oddly, which amuses scientists who say they've "never seen anything like it".

The squid have only been seen in very deep water and haven't yet been identified or named.
