Updated 31 October 2001, 14.18
Map
British explorers say they have found proof of a "Yeti-like" creature on an Indonesian island.

The team discovered a footprint and hair samples from what they think is an ape-like creature called Orang Pendek.

Fact File
Know your "yeti"
Orang Pendek means "Little Man of the Forest"
It walks upright on its back legs
First recorded by scientists in 1917
Said to have chocolatey-brown, orange hair
Over the years there have been many sightings of the creature in the rainforests of Sumatra.

It's described as being five feet tall with chocolatey-brown, orange hair.

But no-one's ever proved it actually exists.

Now a cast of the footprint and strands of coarse hair are being sent for tests in the UK and Australia.

Next year, the same group of scientists are planning a trip to the Gobi Desert in search of a huge snake known as the Mongolian Death Worm!
