  Penguins saved from oil spill
Updated 25 October 2001, 16.19

Hundreds of penguins have been let back into the wild after being rescued from an oil spill.

The penguins were migrating south when they swam through the spill near Argentina in July and August this year.

Thankfully marine biologists at the Mar del Plata aquarium were able to look after them and nurse them back to full health.

200 rescued penguins in a week

Normally the scientists rescue 300 penguins every year, but the spill was so bad that at one point they had to look after 200 in a single week.

Now cleaned and cared for, the penguins have been released back into the ocean, so they can continue their interrupted journey.
