  Incredible dog competition
Updated 10 October 2001, 15.46

Pet pooches have been put through their paces at the Incredible Dog Challenge taking place in the state of Missouri in America.

The event aims to highlight the natural athletic abilities of man's best friend through events such as hurdle races, distance jumping and frisbee routines.

The dogs are timed at each event, and if there are any mistakes points are knocked off.

Dog diving

But the crowd favourite each year is the Incredible Dog Diving Competition.

Canine competitors dive off a ramp into a pool of water to retrieve something resembling a stick. The dog that dives the furthest wins.

And in case you're worried about the competitors - all their tails were wagging with joy. Beats normal walkies anyday!
